Line up for 2010


Another breathtaking round in the fight for the 2010 MotoGP World Championship took place at Le Mans on Sunday, and Jorge Lorenzo emerged victorious to extend his lead at the top of the standings to nine points.

The Spaniard, who won the previous round at Jerez as well, secured his first back-to-back premier class victories with the win at the French circuit and was overjoyed with his achievement, as he explained in the press conference.

Defending World Champion Rossi finished second as he collected further valuable points in the race for his tenth world title across all classes, and Andrea Dovizioso came out on top in a fierce contest for the final spot on the podium.

Honda confirm Casey Stoner signing

The 2011 MotoGP world championship line-up is starting
to take shape with Honda officially announcing the
signing of Casey Stoner today.

Shortly after Ducati confirmed the 2007 world champion
was quitting at the end of the current campaign, HRC
announced that it had captured the signature of Stoner.
Stoner’s deal with the Japanese factory halts endless
speculation about the 24-year-old’s move to ride a factory
RC212V next season.

Ever since his father and manager Colin Stoner met Ducati
and HRC bosses at the second race in Jerez, it has been
rumoured that Stoner was on his way to Honda.
HRC was desperate to sign the former LCR Honda rider as it
tries to win back the premier class world title it last
won in 2006.

Honda’s short statement confirming the signing of Stoner
did not include details of the team he will ride for in 2011.
Honda is still locked in negotiations over a possible
three-rider factory line-up featuring Stoner, Dani Pedrosa
and Andrea Dovizioso.

HRC Vice President Shuhei Nakamoto said: "We are very pleased
that Casey will join Honda again next year. Clearly he is one
of the top riders in MotoGP and he will bring valuable speed
and experience to our team.

"In the factory Honda squad we already have two very strong and
experienced riders in Dani Pedrosa and Andrea Dovizioso who are
performing very well and currently hold second and third positions
in the 2010 World Championship. HRC hopes also to retain these
two riders for next year - giving us what would be a truly
formidable line-up."

Stoner's switch to Honda was eased by new HRC manager Livio Suppo.
He was the man who signed Stoner for Ducati at the end of 2006,
and despite rumours of a big rift last season when Stoner took
an illness sabbatical, Suppo has been influential in luring the
former 250GP world championship runner-up to ride an RC212V
next year.

Valentino Rossi completes test at Misano

Fiat Yamaha Team rider Valentino Rossi today rode a motorcycle for the first time since breaking his right leg at Mugello on 5th June.



Rossi rode a total of 26 laps at Misano on a YZF-R1 WSB machine,
provided by the Yamaha World Superbike Team, and recorded a best
time of 1'38.200. Rossi did an initial run of 11 laps at 18.30 CET
with a best time of 1'41.000, then a second run of 15 laps
at 19.45 CET with a best time of 1'38.200 (unofficial times).

The reigning World Champion was able to ride well but he had some
pain in his leg and his shoulder. He will now continue with an
updated rehabilitation programme and make a decision within the
next week as to whether he will ride at the German Grand Prix at
Sachsenring, in ten days time.

"We made this test in order to understand how we must work from here
and to see more or less how I can ride the bike," said Rossi.
"The test was positive, because I can at least ride, but there
is a lot more to a MotoGP race than to a test like this one. I had
some pain in the ankle, the knee and the shoulder, but above all I
lacked strength in the shoulder and a bit of movement in the ankle.
I would really like to come back at Sachsenring, but it is still too
early to say. We still have twelve days and we must wait and see how
much we can improve my condition in the next few days. The Superbike
today was good and great fun to ride! I really would like to ride at
Sachsenring, but we must wait another week before making a decision."

The Fiat Yamaha rider, who will start the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix
from pole position, was fastest in the warm up session,
with Casey Stoner once more hot on his tail.

In considerably cooler conditions than Saturday’s afternoon qualifying
session the MotoGP riders warmed up for the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix at
Laguna Seca on a track measuring 17ºC, and with some fog present,
and it was pole position holder Jorge Lorenzo who was the quickest
of the 20-minute session.

The Fiat Yamaha rider set a best time of 1’21.857 on his penultimate lap,
with Ducati Team’s Stoner just 0.052s off him as the pair vied for top
spot on the timesheet as had been case in qualifying. Just over the 1’22”
mark Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda), who will start the race from fourth
on the grid, was also in the top three in the Sunday morning warm up.




Valentino Rossi (Fiat Yamaha), Marco Melandri (San Carlo Honda Gresini Team)
and Ben Spies (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) completed the top six,
with Andrea Dovizioso (Repsol Honda) eighth.

The only fall of the session came for Marco Simoncelli (San Carlo Honda
Gresini Team), who went down at the top of turn eight, his second
crash of the weekend and one which appeared to cause the Italian no problems.
