Kathmandu - The Department of Transport Management (DoTM) has launched digital record system which will enable driving licence holders to check the legal status of their license online in its website: www.dotm.gov.np

The department launched this facility under the e-governance initiative for the public after the number of people holding fake driving licenses went up. License holders can now check the validity of their driving licenses simply by entering the license number, citizenship number and the district from where they obtained their citizenship certificate. If the licence is fake, no details will be displayed.

In the initial phase, DoTM has only kept the records of licenses issued by Bagmati Zonal Transport Office. The office has issued around 200,000 licenses till July 16, 2009.

“Details of 1.2 million license holders throughout the country will be available online within the next four months,” said Anil Gurung,  director at DoTM. He said DoTM officials have been sent to all 14 zones to collect necessary data in this regard.

Digitisation will facilitate employees while renewing licenses as well. “Now, we don’t have to search for stored necessary papers for the renewal process,” said Gurung. “We can simply check the details online and renew them.”

Besides, the facility will also discourage people involved in issuing fake licenses as the originality of the licenses can be verified easily on the website.

According to DoTM, it is working to digitise its offices across the nation through a digital networ-king system under the e-governance initiative. The department

expects to complete the task by mid-2010.

The department will be able to issue and renew driving licenses and register vehicles through digital technology.

la mula, mero pani list ma ta bhettayo, father ko name , DOB , citizenship no sbai thik cha.... mero name Raju hunu parne thau ma, Ram banayera morecha khatte haru le... aba renew garne bela ma tension hunchaa jasto chaa.... Undecided

may b its a typing mistake while they r feeding data on the database.tetro manche haru ko info they r trying to update on a short amount of time(couple of lakhs)..so chito chito garda mistake bho hola k. Grin

hehehe torque bro same here mero ni list ma naam ta veatiyo but cast cahi jpt haldiyecha chor haru le!!! baau ko cast ra mero cast nai 2thari haldiye cha... aru data haru ta sabai thik cha... tyahi ho mero ni renew garda cahi ali tens huncha hola
