Researchers at the National Central University in Taiwan have developed a motorcycle that can run on compressed air. 
   
Earlier this year, MCN carried a report on Jem Stansfield, an inventor who claims he’s developed the world’s first air-powered bike. This aeronautics graduate from the University of Bristol, converted his Puch moped to run on 'thin' air. He fitted two high-pressure carbonfibre air cylinders on his bike, which power two rotary air engines, which in turn deliver power to the rear wheel. Complicated isn't it? Besides, Stansfield’s bike could run for 10km per refill with a top speed of about 28km/h.

Now, two Taiwanese researchers Yu-Ta Shen and Yean-Ren Hwang have developed a motorcycle that runs on compressed air. Since motorcycles and scooters are the most popular form of transport in Taiwan and cause around twenty percent of pollution in the island, the Chinese duo were looking for an alternate solution to check pollution.

But there are numerous hurdles that the technology needs to overcome to become a reality. The air-powered engine would require energy to compress the air. So indirectly the compressed-air technology might indirectly cause pollution depending on the kind of power plant used to compress the air in the air-tank.

The prototype can carry the bike and rider barely over a kilometer, with the tank filled with two and a half gallons of air.
As of now, the two researchers are working on a way to hold enough air that can make the revolutionary bike travel for around 35 km without refueling.

However, the industry gurus doubt the technology as a two-wheeler has limited space and very limited amount of compressed air.

We hope these geniuses come up with some solution that can give more options of clean energy bikes. So watch this space, as someone might just come up with a bright idea that can store air at much higher pressure in smaller tanks.

petrol na bhako bela ta atinai kaam lagne racha yo bike...im sure this bike will take market when petroleum product will finish...

aa yea...have seen this guy..is a science freak...n he teams up with this other fat guy n they go aroun savin energy all round Britain...this bike was their work in one of the episodes..
a local restaurant needed a bike which'd save energy n fuel as well for deliveries....n they made this one.... the moped used for this invention was given out for free!!...the seller said it was soo useless that it's only occupyin space in his shop! hahaha..

its the tanks dps bro...you fill in the tanks with air at very high pressure...then the pressure in the tank pushes the sprockets!!..once you loose air pressure...you fill the tanks again...with the machines somewhat like the ones we use to refill our tyres!
